Visit the Historic Wangdue Phodrang Dzong
The fortress, dating back to the 17th century, is one of the first built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. Legend tells that Zhabdrung met an old man who advised him to build the dzong on “the neck of the sleeping elephant” to unite the country. This dzong, which offers stunning views of the surrounding valley, is of great historical significance.

Gangtey Goemba (Monastery), established in 1613 by Gelse Pema Thinley, is an important institution for the Nyingmapa School of Buddhism.
